Join the Data Science Institute to hear Alex Bigelow, the first speaker in its Industry Careers in Data Science Speaker Series for Fall 2022. Speakers in the series will highlight data science skills and backgrounds needed to be successful and how to apply for jobs, pursue data science careers, or establish new industry relationships. This series will start conversations between the attendees and speakers to foster local workforce development with UA graduates and students.
Alex Bigelow is a Software Engineer on the Visual Experience Team at Stardog Union tasked with designing and coding visual tools that help people model and explore data beyond tables. Before Stardog, Alex received his PhD in Computing from the University of Utah, with an emphasis on Data Management, Analysis and Visualization, and completed Postdoctoral work at the University of Arizona in the Department of Computer Science, and as a Data Science Fellow at the University of Arizona Data Science Institute.
Topic: How Data Modeling Choices Can Limit (or Inspire) Creative Data Analysis
Alex’s talk will explore his experiences studying how people approach data analysis and visualization in practice and designing software that is more flexible to real-world workflows and exploring alternative data structures.
