Applied Data Science Speak & Greet - Andrew Bennett

When

3 – 4:30 p.m., Nov. 16, 2022

The Applied Data Science Speak & Greet series is hosted by the University of Arizona Data Science Institute. The series will help to foster and promote building a network of researchers and graduate students, giving exposure to different interdisciplinary Data Science applications.

Andrew Bennett is a Postdoctoral Research Associate with Laura Condon’s group in the Department of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Arizona. His research is in Hydrologic modeling & machine learning.  Bennett completed his PhD in Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Washington.  He works with deep neural network to predict turbulent heat fluxes and streamflow in hydrologic models.

Topic:   "Rapid emulation of a physics-based hydrology simulator with knowledge-guided deep learning models."

The importance and difficulty of modeling the hydrologic cycle will be addressed in this talk as the steps taken to design and build a machine learning-based model for emulating this fundamental cycle in hydrological studies

Please come to listen and learn. Then stay to chat with Andrew Bennett and Nirav Merchant, Director of the Data Science Institute.

Venue: Student Union Kiva Room
